Annual Meeting of the Regional Group for a Just Energy Transition in Latin America and the Caribbean
We participated in the second Annual Meeting of the Regional Group for a Just Energy Transition in Latin America and the Caribbean (GRTEJ, for its acronym in Spanish) in Bogotá, Colombia, between 17 and 19 June.
Around 50 civil society organisations met to discuss joint advocacy initiatives to push for policies at the international and regional levels to achieve a just energy transition.
The GRTEJ meeting is a critical initiative to align the regional and international efforts of the organisations working to advance a just energy transition in the region and promote comprehensive climate action strategies tailored to the unique challenges of Latin America and the Caribbean.
As part of the GRTEJ, we engaged in discussions, workshops, and meetings on various topics, from critical minerals, sustainable energy, and “green” hydrogen to degrowth and gender justice.
Furthermore, the event was also a space for dialogue and exchange, where representatives from organisations and Indigenous and local communities shared and offered insights from their advocacy experiences. The events offered an opportunity for building collective strength and strategies together and planning common advocacy goals to push for a just transition to zero-carbon, resilient, and sustainable societies.
This event was crucial in advancing discussions and deepening the understanding of important issues such as critical minerals, gender justice, and sustainable energy. These discussions analysed different issues related to the energy transition from a human rights perspective and provided a forum for a variety of voices and viewpoints to converge.
With our participation at this annual meeting, we seek to continue mobilising and engaging partners in advocating for a gender-just and equitable transition to sustainable societies.
