Gender Justice at the Heart of the Negotiations at COP30

Gender Justice at the Heart of the Negotiations at COP30

On 13 May 2025, we joined nearly 200 organisations in endorsing an open letter led by the Women and Gender Constituency (WGC) of the UNFCCC, urging the COP30 Presidency to place gender justice at the heart of climate negotiations.

This letter reflects a collective call for a new Gender Action Plan that is truly intersectional, inclusive, and transformative. It outlines 11 key demands, from robust financing and accountability mechanisms to centring the leadership of women, girls, and gender-diverse people, especially from the frontline and Global South communities.

Gender justice is central to climate justice. The impacts of the climate emergency are not equal, and solutions must address the structural inequalities that continue to marginalise the groups leading resilience efforts.

This demands systemic change to dismantle extractive models, recognise the leadership of frontline communities and women in all their diversity, and guarantee a just and equitable rights-based transition. This endorsement is one more step to amplify feminist climate leadership and ensure that COP30 delivers on justice.
