Right to social security in the constitutions of the world
GI-ESCR participated in the panel organised by the International Labor Organisation and the Ibero-American Social Security Organisation to make visible the importance of international law and constitutional principles in the design, implementation and reform of rights-based social protection systems.
During the conversation, an assessment was made of the advances in social security made in Latin American countries and the main challenges to ensuring that all people can access this human right. National and international experts moderated by our Executive Director, Magdalena Sepúlveda Carmona, reflected on the role of constitutional provisions related to social security in establishing the regulatory frameworks and institutions necessary to guarantee the practical realisation of this human right in the region.
The webinar served as the occasion to launch the ILO publication “Right to social security in the world's constitutions: Expanding the moral and legal space for social justice", Latin America Edition, which brings together valuable contributions from academics, public officials and social security experts from the region reflected in 18 country articles that analyse the incorporation of the human right to social security in the constitutions of Argentina, the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
