Beyond Growth: Pathways for a Just Energy Transition

Beyond Growth: Pathways for a Just Energy Transition

The report advocates for a radical rethinking of energy systems, arguing that a just transition requires moving beyond the pursuit of endless economic growth. It critiques how current energy systems, deeply entwined with growth-driven economic models, exacerbate inequality and environmental degradation, particularly in the Global South.

Grounded in feminist and human rights principles, this publication promotes a beyond growth approach that entails scaling down polluting industries, redistributing energy resources, reducing consumption in affluent societies and investing in decentralised, community-led renewable energy systems that prioritise care, equity and democratic participation. To ensure this transformation is just, the report emphasises the need to align energy policy with human rights standards and feminist perspectives. It calls for gender-responsive assessments, intersectional policy design and inclusive, transparent governance that centres the needs and voices of marginalised communities.
