The Pact for the Future and the UN Framework Convention on Tax Cooperation
This short publication examines the connections between the Pact for the Future, adopted at the recent Summit of the Future in New York, and the proposed UN Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation. The Pact, aimed at fostering a sustainable, inclusive and peaceful world, underscores the need for stronger financial and fiscal systems to close the SDGs financing gap. The UN Tax Convention, a proposed treaty, seeks to create a fairer and more effective global tax framework by addressing challenges such as tax evasion and illicit financial flows. The publication highlights the synergies between these initiatives and discusses the positions of various countries during negotiations, ultimately arguing that the adoption of the UN Tax Convention is essential to achieving the Pact's goals and supporting sustainable development and human rights.
