Between August and September 2024, we collaborated with Antonio García School in Bogotá, Colombia, to organise an Arts Festival. The event engaged 49 students aged 9 to 13 in workshops brimming with creativity and discovery.

Over four sessions, the Art and Rights workshops introduced students to the fundamentals of human rights and their connection to public services, using their school as a practical example.
Image

Goal

Inspire future advocates for public services. Foster a deeper understanding of the significance of public services in promoting equity and social justice.
Image

Methodology

Students collaborated actively during 'Art and Rights' workshops, fostering a sense of collective engagement through the creation of a 'community of rights'. Using booklets as their medium, they creatively represented their understanding of public services and human rights, highlighting their shared commitment to these essential values.

Impact

The festival ignited a lively exchange of ideas and empowered young voices to advocate for economic, social and cultural rights, as well as the delivery of equitable and high-quality public services in Colombia.

Exhibition

At the final ceremony, students, families, teachers and GI-ESCR representatives gathered for a vibrant art exhibition. The works showcased reflected lessons and experiences gained during the workshops. Many depicted a 'community of rights' through creative portrayals of hospitals, schools and public transportation, underscoring the essential role of public services and human rights in ensuring a dignified life.
