Advancing Inclusivity: A Call for Live Online Participation at UN Human Rights Bodies

The discontinuation of live online participation options by the UN Human Rights Council, Treaty Bodies, and related mechanisms significantly marginalises civil society representatives, preventing their participation in essential discussions. This exclusion compromises the inclusiveness and effectiveness of the UN's human rights initiatives, challenging the core values of universality and diversity that underpin our shared mission.

We call for the reinstatement and improvement of online and hybrid participation mechanisms. Our goal is to ensure that the perspectives and voices of all stakeholders, with an emphasis on those from marginalised and directly impacted communities, are heard and actively contribute to shaping the discourse on global human rights. In solidarity with a wide array of civil society partners, our organisation has sought to confront these issues through a targeted effort that has taken the shape of the following letter.
