GI-ESCR Board Announcement
Today, the Board of GI-ESCR announces that Magdalena Sepúlveda Carmona, our Executive Director for five years, is stepping down to take over the leadership of the UN Research Institute for Social Development. As of 1 November 2024, Camila Barretto Maia, formerly the Deputy Director of GI-ESCR, has been appointed as Acting Executive Director until the search for a permanent Executive Director is completed.
As the Board of GI-ESCR, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Magdalena for her brilliant leadership these past several years. Magdalena has increased the reach, impact, and profile of the organization's work and put GI-ESCR on a sound financial footing that equips us to keep catalysing and building the change we seek at national and global levels – see GI-ESCR strategy.
GI-ESCR's Board Chair, Rachel Moussié, notes, " Although we are sad to lose Magdalena, we're thrilled to see her move on to UNRISD, where she'll no doubt continue making a difference. We are delighted to have Camila step in as Acting Executive Director—her experience managing international teams and steering strategic global advocacy for economic, social, and cultural rights make her the perfect choice to lead us through this transition."
The Board is finalising the details of the recruitment process for a new permanent ED. A job advert and more information will be posted in the coming days. In the meantime, we have tremendous confidence in Camila's ability to steer the organisation. Camila will have the support of a dedicated and dynamic team across the globe, including our long-time Director of Finance and HR, Mónica Ovalle, and the Board will assist closely during this transition.
